Let’s learn how to edit like a expert
Why research is being done:
To create a film opening, editing is obviously a very important task. Editing is an art as it connects randomly clips and turns them into entire stories. It is important to know how to combine clips in the right order, use transitions properly, and make a smooth video. So, time to learn how to do it.
The research:
Basic film editing techniques
Basic film editing techniques include continuity editing, dynamic editing, and montage editing. Continuity editing is often called invisible, seamless, or classical Hollywood editing. It relies on standard shot patterns such as two-shot, one-shot, and over the shoulder. 180 degree rule is usually followed. Dynamic editing is achieved in the cutting room rather than during the original shooting, typically through clever juxtaposition and rapid pacing. It has a visceral energy generated by using a large number of shots intercut rapidly to an emotional conclusion. Montage editing is the combing of one or more images to create a different meaning. Montage sequence is an offspring of this, it consist of a series of short shots that are edited into a sequence to condense narrative. It is usually used to advance the story as a whole, usually to suggest the passage of time, rather than to create a symbolic meaning.
Film editing devices
Film editing devices include transitions, matches, and duration. With transitions the shot is defined by editing but editing also works to join shots together. There are many ways to effectively transition like jumpcut and reverse shot. Matches refer to those techniques that join as well as divide two shots by making some form of connection between them. That connection can be inferred from the situation portrayed in the scene or can be purely optical nature. Duration can affect the experience of time in the cinema by creating a gap between screen time and by establishing a fast or slow rhythm for the scene.
App options
As technology advances there are many more apps to create and edit films. Some options I can use for my film opening are CapCut, iMovie, Adobe, and Clips. I already have plenty of experience with CapCut as I have used it for plenty of past blog assignments. So, personally I feel it will be the best fit for me to use but I will still be exploring the other options.
